Fiona Tung is the national winner in the "Draw it!" category
MARKHAM, ON, June 14, 2017 /CNW/ - Fiona Tung of the University of Toronto Schools is the national winner of the Canada Day Challenge in the "Draw it!" category. The other 2017 winners are Joshua Sprigg of Mount Albert, Ontario, in the "Snap it!" category and Emily Zbaraschuk of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, in the "Write it!" category.
Fiona submitted a painting under the theme "Celebrate Your Future." The young artist, who also attends the Beware Wet Paint Art School in Markham, painted a canvas that expresses her vision for the future. She included themes that are dear to her heart, such as innovation, space exploration and green energy. The Canada 150 tulip is also a focal point of her creation.
Fiona and her mother have been invited to visit Canada's Capital Region as of June 27 to participate in Canada Day celebrations, which are taking place on Parliament Hill as part of Canada 150. Fiona and the other winners will have the opportunity to visit Parliament, museums and national historical sites during their visit, thanks to the support of official collaborators. Her entry will also be displayed at the Canadian Museum of History from June to September. Additionally, she will receive an iPad from the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) and will have the opportunity to work with a team of experts from the NFB to produce her own short film.
Quotes
"Canada is filled with extraordinary young talent, and the Canada Day Challenge shows that our youth are bursting with ideas, projects and dreams. In this year of Canada 150 celebrations, the theme 'Celebrate Your Future' was quite timely. It allowed young people to reflect on our past and express their vision for Canada's future and their own. It's very inspiring! Congratulations to the winners and all the participants in the 2017 Challenge."
— The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage
