TORONTO, Aug. 10, 2016 /CNW/ - After struggling to complete one of the Detour challenges, married couple Julie and Lowell from Lethbridge, Alta. fell behind the pack, before deciding to switch to the other Detour option in Kingston, Ont. The duo worked hard to try to get ahead of the other Racers, but ultimately, it was too little too late and the pair were unable to catch up to the rest of the teams. The ever-positive couple became the fifth team eliminated from THE AMAZING RACE CANADA at the Pit Stop at Kingston Mills Lockstation.
"We ran the Race together how we run our lives together: teamwork, kindness, and love," said Julie of her time running the Race with her husband. Lowell went on to say, "For me it was about seeing parts of this world and seeing parts of Canada that I wouldn't see and… might never see again before I go blind. [Julie's] been my rock, she's been my eyes."

Episode 407 Recap
Racing straight through from Hamilton to Kingston, Ont., and with a Double U-Turn ahead, the six teams made their way to Springer Market Square to locate their next clue. Steph and Kristen were the first to arrive to a sign letting teams know they were to return the following morning. It was a lucky break for Joel and Ashley who had arrived last on the previous mat and missed the last train to Kingston, Ont. but were able to catch up to the pack the next day.
Teams returned to the Square the next day and searched for Vader's Maple Syrup stand to find their next clue, which led them to Clarence Street, where they found six tablets and a fleet of Chevrolet Cruzes. In order to determine which Chevrolet was theirs, they had to correctly match one of the four digit license plate codes with their lock to gain access to their tablet, unlock their vehicle using the myChevrolet App, to retrieve their next clue.
Teams were then given a Detour challenge, Higher Education or High Seas. Higher Education required teams to make their way to Nixon field on the Queen's University campus where they had to climb into a giant bubble and work together against the clock to complete a series of soccer drills. Ultimately, they had to score a goal on a member of the Queen's University women's championship soccer team in under 25 seconds – before being rocked by the goalie who charged teams as they prepared to shoot. Once they completed the course successfully, the Queen's University mascot Boo Hoo the Bear gave them their next clue.
In High Seas, teams made their way to the Kingston Yacht Club. Here teams had to select a sailboat and learn to master pulleys and knots to rig a sea worthy vessel. Once their boat passed inspection, they set sail and steered themselves to the floating buoy where they retrieved their next clue.
Julie and Lowell fell behind as they struggled through the Higher Education Detour. Lowell's sight became a challenge as he could hardly see through the bubble and kept missing the ball. The duo decided to make the switch and try their luck at the High Seas Detour. Dating couple Steph and Kristen took the lead and were first to arrive at the Double U-Turn board at Kingston Penitentiary. Steph and Kristen decided to U-Turn Jillian and Emmett before continuing on the Race.
At the Kingston Penitentiary, teams had to enter the decommissioned prison and search a number of confinement areas to find their next clue which was hidden among the 400 prison cells. Jillian and Emmett arrived second to the Double U-Turn board and decided they had no choice but to U-Turn another team in order to save themselves. The duo U-Turned father and daughter team Joel and Ashley.
As all teams were completing the High Seas challenge, Steph and Kristen moved on to the next Roadblock. Teams had to locate Bellevue House, a national historic site that was once home to Canada's first Prime Minister Sir John A. MacDonald. Here, one team member had to dress as Sir John A. Macdonald and memorize one of his famous political speeches. They then had to perfectly recite the speech to a group of concerned citizens to receive their next clue.
Steph and Kristen debated using their Express Pass as this was the last leg they were able to use it, however, unsure if there was another task ahead, the duo decided to pull through the challenge. Keeping their first place lead, Steph and Kristen made their way to Kingston Mills Lockstation and searched for Jon at the Pit Stop. Arriving at the Pit Stop first, the pair was awarded a trip for two to Rome, Italy with five nights' accommodation provided by Hotels.com. Julie and Lowell were the last team to arrive and were eliminated from the Race.
