Mars Canada issues allergy alert for Uncle Ben's Bistro Express Rice six-pack
formats

BOLTON, ON, June 5 /CNW/ - Mars Canada Inc. is advising consumers with an allergy to milk proteins not to consume Bistro Express Rice sold in 6 pack format before verifying the product ingredients on the inner packages of the Bistro Express Rice. The outer box of the affected 6 packs does not declare milk in all ingredient listings. The ingredient listings on the individual pouches within the affected 6 pack boxes are correctly labeled with milk ingredients declared where present.

The affected product, Uncle Ben's Bistro Express 1.5 kg 6 pack format bearing UPC 0 58496 25406 was sold nationally only at Costco, Wal-Mart and Shoppers Drug Mart stores. The package contains 6 x 250 g pouches of rice (2 each of 3 flavours - Fine Herbs, Roasted Chicken flavour and Wholegrain Brown). Milk ingredients are present in the Fine Herbs and Roasted Chicken flavoured rice product pouches. The ingredient listings on the individual pouches are correctly labelled.

No other products are affected by this allergy alert.

Mars is asking consumers to discard the outer packaging (box) for the Bistro Express 6 pack and consult the individual product packages for all ingredient, nutrition and other product information.

Mars is working with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and with affected retailers to address this issue swiftly. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.
