MONTREAL, Nov. 26, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - The Archbishop of Montreal, Most Reverend Christian Lépine, will be presiding at a special Mass in support of the people of the Philippines who were devastated by Typhoon Haiyan. The celebration will take place at Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal on Thursday, November 28, at 7:30 P.M. Members of the Catholic Filipino-Canadian community will be among those present during this celebration to which everyone is invited.
In response to Most Reverend Christian Lépine's appeal, Father Claude Grou CSC, the Rector of Saint Joseph's Oratory, declared, Saint Joseph's Oratory will open its doors wide, so that all those who would like to express their solidarity toward the victims can gather in great number, pray together, and provide material support.
All the funds raised on Thursday at the Oratory will go to Development and Peace (www.devp.org). A special collection will also be held in all the parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Montreal, the proceeds of which will go to Development and Peace. The Government of Canada will match all of these donations up until December 9, 2013.
Development and Peace is the official international development organization of the Catholic Church in Canada and the Canadian member of Caritas Internationalis.
