Matco Investments Ltd. announces appointment of Michael J. Tims as Vice Chairman

CALGARY, Jan. 28, 2014 /CNW/ - Matco Investments Ltd. ("Matco") of Calgary is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael J. Tims as Vice Chairman.

Matco is a private firm, owned by Ronald P. Mathison, which, directly and through its affiliates, invests in the oil and gas and oilfield services industries, in real estate and in selected other opportunities as they arise.

Mr. Tims retired from Peters & Co. Limited, a Canadian investment firm specializing in the energy sector, at the end of 2013. He most recently served as Chairman of Peters & Co., having previously served in a number of executive roles at that firm over the past 33 years.

Mr. Tims holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree (with Distinction) and an honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Calgary, as well as an MBA from Harvard University.  He is also a Chartered Business Valuator.

Mr. Tims is the current Chair of the Board of the National Gallery of Canada and, among other involvements, is a past Chair of: the Investment Dealers Association of Canada, the Canadian Investor Protection Fund, and the United Way of Calgary and Area. He remains active with a number of not-for-profit organizations and has received several awards for business achievement and for service to the community.

Among other investment holdings, Matco is a significant shareholder in Calfrac Well Services Ltd., Tesla Exploration Ltd. and Western Energy Services Corp., and a co-owner of Eighth Avenue Place, where Mr. Mathison serves as Chairman in each case. Mr. Mathison was one of the founders of each of Calfrac and Tesla. Affiliated entities within the Matco group include: Matco Capital Ltd., a private investment firm, Matco Financial Inc., an investment counselling and asset management firm and m2i Development Corporation, a real estate development company.
