Maureen Jensen Comments on Her Appointment as OSC Chair and CEO
TORONTO, Feb. 11, 2016 /CNW/ - The following statement was issued today by Maureen Jensen in response to her appointment as Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) Chair and Chief Executive Officer for a term of two years, effective February 10, 2016.
"I am deeply honoured to be selected to lead the OSC on behalf of the people of Ontario. The OSC plays a critical role in the health of Ontario's capital markets and economy, and I look forward to working with market participants and our highly capable staff to achieve stronger outcomes for investors and the capital markets."
"This is a crucial time for our agency as we move forward with efforts to modernize capital markets regulation in Ontario and Canada. The OSC will continue to support the Government of Ontario in establishing and developing the Cooperative Capital Markets Regulatory System. At the same time, the OSC will continue to focus on enhancing the retail investor experience, providing greater access to capital for businesses and strengthening our enforcement program through new tools such as no-contest settlements and a whistleblower program."
Prior to her appointment, Chair Jensen served as Executive Director and Chief Administrative Officer of the OSC for five years.
The mandate of the OSC is to provide protection to investors from unfair, improper or fraudulent practices and to foster fair and efficient capital markets and confidence in the capital markets. Investors are urged to check the registration of any persons or company offering an investment opportunity and to review the OSC investor materials available at http://www.osc.gov.on.ca
