VITTORIA, ON, April 28 /CNW Telbec/ -
Dear Editor,
May 8, 2010 marks the 65th Anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day.
As a member of The War Amps Operation Legacy, a group of committed young people dedicated to preserving Canada's military heritage, I would like to highlight this anniversary.
On May 8, 1945, the Allied Forces formally accepted Nazi Germany's unconditional surrender. Although the war was not yet over, as the guns were silenced in Europe, there was cause for much celebration.
Canadians fought in the air, on the seas, and over land. They experienced victories, as well as defeats, and many suffered the worst cruelties imaginable. The true horror of war is reflected in the 45,000 Canadians who did not return home to their families.
We can learn more about our unique history through The War Amps Canadian Military Heritage Series. All documentaries are funded by corporate donations and are available at a cost-recovery price by calling 1 800 250-3030 or visiting waramps.ca.
Sincerely,
Abbey McGuire, Age 16 Operation Legacy Member, Vittoria
