Mayor Dan Mathieson Elected as Chair of the Municipal Property Assessment
Corporation's Board of Directors
PICKERING, ON, Nov. 11 /CNW/ - The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation's (MPAC) Board of Directors has elected Mayor Dan Mathieson as its new Board Chair.
"MPAC has shown tremendous resourcefulness and professionalism over the years and I look forward to working with my fellow Board members and senior management to provide the best possible assessment products and services to our property taxpayer customers and municipal and government stakeholders," Mr. Mathieson said.
Mr. Mathieson is self-employed and is presently the Mayor of the City of Stratford. He also serves as a Director for Festival Hydro as well as the Steering Committee for the University of Waterloo (Stratford Campus). He is also a Board Member of King's University College, University of Western Ontario Property serving on the Facilities Committee and the Strategic Planning Committee.
Funded by Ontario municipalities, MPAC is accountable to the public through a 15-member Board of Directors composed of eight municipal representatives, five members representing property taxpayers, and two provincial government representatives. Members of MPAC's Board of Directors are appointed by the Minister of Finance. The Association of Municipalities of Ontario provides the Minister of Finance with a list of possible municipal representatives for appointment.

MPAC is responsible for administering a uniform, province-wide property assessment system based on current values. It provides a range of services, including the preparation of annual assessment rolls for use by municipalities and the Province of Ontario to calculate property taxes and education taxes. MPAC is also responsible for municipal enumeration and preparing the Preliminary List of Electors for each municipal and school board elections every four years.
