Mayor of Regina to Attend Commonwealth Games as Boxing Official
REGINA, Sept. 27 /CNW/ - The Mayor of Regina Pat Fiacco will be attending the 19th Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India. Mayor Fiacco will be at the games as an International Technical Official (ITO) for the International Boxing Association (AIBA)
As an ITO, the Mayor's role during the games will be as a supervisor overseeing the boxing competition and reviewing the performance of the referees and judges.
There will be competition in 11 weight classes at the Commonwealth Games at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium from October 5 -13.
Last spring, Mayor Fiacco was the first Canadian selected to AIBA's Refereeing and Judging Commission. The Commission's role is to oversee all international boxing competitions and the certification and performance of boxing officials.
This is the second Commonwealth Games for the Mayor. In 2002, he was chosen to represent Canada as a referee and judge in Manchester, England. Mayor Fiacco has been a referee and judge at every level of international boxing competition including representing Canada as a referee and judge at the 2004 Athens Olympics.
Mayor Fiacco will depart for India on September 30.
