Mayor Rob Ford to Testify in Open Court in Conflict of Interest Case
TORONTO, Aug. 24, 2012 /CNW/ - Mayor Rob Ford will testify in open court to answer to allegations that he breached the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act and should be removed from office. The lawsuit was launched in March by Clayton Ruby on behalf of Toronto resident, Paul Magder.
Mayor Ford had previously filed an affidavit and been cross-examined outside of court. Mr. Magder subsequently brought a motion seeking an order requiring Mayor Ford to testify in open court because Mayor Ford's credibility is in issue in this case.
Earlier today, Regional Senior Justice Charles T. Hackland convened an all-parties teleconference hearing, and it was determined that Mayor Ford would testify and be cross-examined in open court on the first day of the hearing.
The hearing will begin on September 5, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the 393 University Avenue courthouse.
