RICHMOND HILL, ON, Jan. 4, 2017 /CNW/ - Mazda Canada Inc. (MCI) today reported December sales of 4,722 vehicles, a decrease of 2.7 percent versus December 2015. The company also reported calendar year (CY) 2016 total sales in Canada of 69,210, down 3.5 percent from 2015.
Key December 2016 and CY2016 sales notes:
- MCI's best-selling model continues to be the Mazda3, with 1,822 vehicles sold in December. Full-year sales for the Mazda3 were 27,689, down 20.5 percent versus 2015.
- CX-5 had its best December and full year sales ever with 1,783 vehicles sold in December, and 25,123 for the year. Year-over-year (YOY), CX-5 sales were up 4.0 percent (1,714 vehicles sold in December 2015). The CX-5 led several months' sales for the first time in 2015, showing the strength of the compact crossover, but ended the year as the second best-selling Mazda in the Canada.
- The subcompact CX-3 sold 612 vehicles in December. In its first full year on sale, the CX-3 sold 9,354 vehicles which put it solidly in third place in the Mazda lineup.
- The new second-generation CX-9 launched in 2016 with high praise from automotive media, and quickly grew sales of the nameplate to record levels, jumping 183.1 percent in December, and ended the year with a 114.6 percent increase versus 2015 and the best full year of sales since the CX-9's debut in 2008.
- Mazda's line of CX crossover vehicles continue a strong growth trend, with sales increasing by 21.9 percent in 2016, and each of the models experienced a record sales year.
- Demand for the new MX-5 continued through its first full year on sale, sending full-year sales for the MX-5 up 43.3 percent, representing the best year for MX-5 sales since 2008.
- SKYACTIV Technology proves to be the key between performance and fuel efficiency as customers demand a no compromise solution. 97.1 percent of Mazda vehicles sold in December (97.6 percent full-year) were equipped with SKYACTIV Technology.
