RICHMOND HILL, ON, Jan. 3, 2019 /CNW/ - Mazda Canada Inc. (MCI) today reported December sales of 3,987 vehicles, representing a decrease of 14.9 percent versus December 2017. Sales for the full 2018 calendar year are 73,869, which is a decrease of 0.3 percent compared to CY2017.
2018 was an exciting year for Mazda, with almost all models receiving design updates and new equipment. The all-new Mazda3 is set to make its Canadian debut at the Montreal International Auto Show on January 17th and will be on sale within the first quarter of 2019.
KEY DECEMBER AND CY2018 SALES NOTES:
- Taking the sales lead in December, the CX-5 narrowed the CY sales gap to the perennially best-selling Mazda model, the Mazda3 compact sedan and hatchback, to less than 140 vehicles. The Mazda3 has easily been the best-selling model in Mazda's lineup since it's first full year on sale in 2004, but the CX-5 looks poised to take over in 2019.
- Mazda's predictive i-ACTIV All-Wheel Drive option continues to be a favorite among Mazda CX-line buyers, with 83.2 percent of customers choosing the AWD option in December.
- While Mazda's CX-line, including the CX-3, CX-5 and CX-9, saw December sales decline by 12.0 percent to 2,461 vehicles, total sales of the three crossover vehicles finished the year up 7.7 percent, with 43,404 vehicles sold in 2018.
