MONTREAL, Jan. 28, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - McCarthy Tétrault is delighted to announce that Mr. Pierre Renaud, president of the Bureau d'audiences publiques sur l'environnement (BAPE) from 2007 to 2012, and a seasoned specialist in Québec's environmental and sustainable development sector, has joined the firm's Business Law Group as Counsel and head of the Environmental Law Group in the Québec region.
"At a time when social acceptability is the cornerstone of any investment project, acquiring the expertise of a former BAPE president is a first in Québec and a great asset for many of our natural resources clients," said Kim Thomassin, managing partner of McCarthy Tétrault's Québec region. "Mr. Renaud's credibility, leadership and skills add unique environmental sector expertise, and a thorough understanding of environmental issues, sustainable development and corporate social responsibility. Mr. Renaud's arrival at McCarthy Tétrault strengthens our firm's commitment to being exceptionally responsive to our clients' needs and providing them with top-notch resources."

His numerous successes in organizational optimization have earned him recognition for his strategic leadership, results-oriented approach and development of innovative ideas.
Mr. Renaud was BAPE's commissioner from 1993 to 1996 before being appointed its president. "I am proud to join a firm that, due to the immense talent of its lawyers, has developed such a prestigious reputation in numerous sectors - including the environment, natural resources and Aboriginal rights - and that has participated in some of the largest international transactions," said Mr. Renaud. "I want to use my expertise and knowledge of the Québec environmental and sustainable development sector to help our clients succeed by supporting them strategically from a social acceptance perspective at the outset of their projects, and while they pursue the authorization, public consultation and participation process - including that of BAPE."
