McClelland & Stewart Acquires David Davidar's New Novel
TORONTO, Oct 4 /CNW/ - McClelland & Stewart President and Publisher Doug Pepper is pleased to announce the acquisition of David Davidar's highly anticipated third novel, Ithaca, in a deal arranged by U.K. agent David Godwin. Set in the international world of book publishing and his most ambitious novel to date, the book is scheduled for publication in Fall 2011.
"We're thrilled to be publishing Ithaca," Pepper said. "With this book, David turns his keenly observant and passionate eye on a subject he knows well, giving us a rich, layered, and poignant novel about the publishing industry at a time of its greatest change in a century. Honest, witty, and edgy, the book's message is ultimately hopeful, about the power of great story-telling and how it has endured and, despite the cataclysmic changes of the last several years, will continue to endure."
David Davidar is one of the founding members of Penguin Books in India, and the former CEO of Penguin International and President and Publisher of Penguin Books Canada. Davidar is the author of two critically acclaimed novels. The House of Blue Mangoes, published in 2002, was translated into 16 languages and was a New York Times Notable Book and a Book Sense Pick. The Solitude of Emperors, published in 2007, was a finalist for the Commonwealth Writers' Prize.
