VANCOUVER, Aug. 9, 2017 /CNW/ - Forty years ago, McDonald's Canada launched McHappy Day, the restaurant chain's largest one-day fundraising event of the year where $1 from every Big Mac® sandwich, Happy Meal® and hot McCafe® beverage sold is donated to Ronald McDonald House Charities®. This year marked the most successful campaign to date, with restaurants in BC and Yukon raising $530,849 dollars, a 40% increase from last year's raise. The funds will support the Ronald McDonald's House Charities network of programs in British Columbia, which supports thousands of families each year through its Ronald McDonald Houses and Ronald McDonald Family Rooms.
"Ronald McDonald House keeps families close while their sick child is undergoing treatment in Vancouver," said Richard Pass, CEO of Ronald McDonald's House Charities, British Columbia & Yukon. "We are overwhelmed and extremely thankful to the public for their ongoing support in this campaign year after year, and to our partners: McDonald's Restaurants of Canada, and our BC owner operators, and their crews, who put in tremendous effort to make sure this year was the most successful yet."
About Ronald McDonald House Charities® Canada (RMHC Canada)
RMHC Canada is the national foundation of support for Canada's 15 Ronald McDonald Houses, 16 Ronald McDonald Family Rooms and 2 Ronald McDonald Care Mobiles across the country. Collectively, these programs support over 30,000 families each year, providing access to quality health care and enabling family-centered care. All, by keeping families close – one family at a time.
The 15 Ronald McDonald Houses across the country provide a home for out-of-town families whose children are being treated at a nearby hospital, while the 16 Ronald McDonald Family Rooms offer families a place to rest and recharge right inside the hospital. Completing our circle of support are 2 Ronald McDonald Care Mobiles, mobile health units that bring medical care to underserved communities in Alberta.
As our founding and forever partner, and RMHC's largest donor, McDonald's Restaurants of Canada, their franchisees and guests, generously provides over $10 million annually to help support the RHMC network of programs for families with sick children across Canada.
