MONCTON, NB, Feb. 1, 2012 /CNW/ - The Medavie Health Foundation is fully operational today with the launch of its formal grants program. This comes after a series of early grant and partnership announcements and is aligned with the launch of www.medaviehealthfoundation.ca.
"We are excited to see the Foundation come to life," said Ruth Rappini, Vice-President, Organization Development, Medavie Blue Cross and Medavie Health Foundation. "The Medavie Health Foundation was born from the vision that, as a not-for-profit organization, we don't have an obligation to shareholders but, rather, to the communities where we do business."
Rappini continued, "To date we have committed more than $1.2 million to single and multi-year grant and partnership programs, some of which are yet to be formally announced. With today's launch of our formal grants program and our website, we look forward to expanding this level of support to reach communities and organizations across Atlantic Canada."
"We are proud to partner with Medavie Blue Cross to support the creation of the Medavie Health Foundation," said George McLellan, President and CEO, Medavie EMS. "Our paramedics live and work in communities across Atlantic Canada and beyond. Investing in these communities further reinforces our focus on providing successful solutions in the current challenging climate of emergency health care delivery."
"Social alliances (long term strategic partnerships between for-profit and non-profit organizations) are powerful tools with which to address today's complex social and economic issues," said Peggy Cunningham, Dean of Dalhousie University's Faculty of Management. "I believe that the Medavie Health Foundation will break new ground and will help to raise the bar in terms of taking a collaborative approach to meeting the needs of Atlantic Canadian communities."
The Medavie Health Foundation is focused on developing partnerships and supporting programs in two core cause areas - child and youth mental health and type 2 diabetes.
