Media Advisory - CAW Kicks Off Early Contract Talks with General Motors/CAMI

INGERSOLL, ON, March 11, 2013 /CNW/ - The Canadian Auto Workers union today kicks off negotiations with General Motors for a new contract at the company's CAMI assembly plant in Ingersoll, Ontario.

Collective bargaining talks are taking place months ahead of a contract expiry between the union and the company, after CAW Local 88 members voted in favour of the move at a meeting held on February 10, 2013.

Contract talks are scheduled over the next two weeks. Negotiators are working toward an advanced internal deadline of March 24 to get a deal done.

CAW members will not be in a legal strike position if a deal cannot be reached by the March 24 deadline. The current collective agreement expires on September 16, 2013.

CAW Local 88 represents 2500 production and skilled trades workers at the CAMI facility, producing the Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain vehicles.
