MEDIA ADVISORY - 2010 Toronto Santa Claus Parade & Toys for the North
TORONTO, Nov. 18 /CNW/ - The 2010 Toronto Santa Claus Parade will take place this coming Sunday, November 21st and this year, the Toronto Santa Claus Parade Committee will be sending all the donated toys to children living in Canada's north - hence the creation of "Toys for the North" initiative.
The Santa Claus Parade Committee is a charitable volunteer organization and for years, the RCMP has been an active participant in the parade. In this year's parade, as well as having RCMP officers at the front end of the parade, four horses and their riders from the Musical Ride will be escorting the Santa float. The RCMP will also have members from Ontario as well as members from the northern territories that will be collecting the toys donated by the public. Last year's parade achieved over 11,000 donations.
Following this event, the toys will be sorted, transported and delivered to northern communities. Upon the delivery of the toys, and alongside the community and other delegates, the RCMP will begin the distribution of the toys to the agencies such as women's shelters and children of the selected hamlets and communities.
The logistics on the delivery of the toys are currently being planned and we will advise you accordingly. Once determined, we will be inviting you to attend the loading and unloading events and if you choose, to participate as our community works together on achieving one of the greatest gifts thanks to the generous donations from Toronto's residents - a smile from a child.
