OTTAWA, Oct. 15, 2014 /CNW/ - CARE Canada and Canada's International Development Research Centre (IDRC) are organizing a conference to celebrate World Food Day on October 16, 2014, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the IDRC head office in Ottawa. The event will focus on how Canada can contribute to world food security and meet the food needs of a rapidly growing world population.
Two panels will consider the challenges and solutions to global food security. The first—with high-level representatives from IDRC, Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada, CARE Canada, and the private sector—will discuss the perspectives and roles of different sectors of society in ensuring world food security.
The second panel will bring together representatives from McGill University, the University of Guelph, the Humanitarian Coalition, CARE Ethiopia, and IDRC to share practical experiences and results.
Each panel will be followed by a discussion period. The conference will also be offered as a live webcast. English-French simultaneous interpretation services will be available.
Spaces are limited and journalists are encouraged to register with IDRC. Join in the conversation through Twitter at #WFD2014.
