Media advisory - 4 in 10 women put their lives at risk - Lise Dion gets on screen to talk about breast cancer

MONTREAL, Sept. 24, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Out of a million women eligible for the PQDCS Quebec Breast Cancer Screening Program, some 400,000 do not get mammograms every two years. If all the women who can participate in the program took their breast exams as prescribed, it is estimated that there would be 20% fewer deaths from breast cancer.

The early detection of breast cancer increases the chances of successful treatment. An innovative and effective educational tool has been created by the Canadian Cancer Society to promote mammography among women aged between 50 and 69 years.

WHAT:	Lise Dion, spokesperson for the Canadian Cancer Society, invites you to the special screening of a video, directed by Ricardo Trogi and written by Marc Brunet, as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Lise shares the screen with a few people close to her and a companion who is a hit with women!

Eight out of 10 breast cancers occur in women aged 50 and above. One in nine women risks getting breast cancer in her lifetime. In 2012, in Quebec, 5,500 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer; some 1,350 will die from it.
