Media Advisory - A record number of clinics closed in Atlantic this winter
Residents asked to rebook appointments to donate blood
SAINT JOHN, March 23, 2015 /CNW/ - Extreme weather conditions across the Atlantic have forced Canadian Blood Services to cancel a record-breaking 57 blood donor clinics this year.
"The closure of these clinics means that we have lost the opportunity to collect over 2,200 donations," says Peter MacDonald, director of donor relations in the Atlantic. "With better weather forecasts on the way we need donors to book or rebook an appointment to give blood."
With the help of a national supply, Canadian Blood Services has weathered the storms by temporarily leveraging our national reserves to ensure patient needs are met but needs your help to fill appointments now.
The clinic in Charlottetown closed this morning for plasma donation however is open this evening for from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. for blood donation.
To fill empty appointments and meet patient needs, you can book an appointment, download the GiveBlood app, visit blood.ca or call 1 888 2 DONATE (1 888 236 6283).
