Media Advisory - AFL demands immediate action on workplace health and safety
EDMONTON, Nov. 4 /CNW/ - The Alberta Federation of Labour (AFL) will release a 10-point plan for immediate action to improve workplace health and safety standards in the province at the Legislature in Edmonton tomorrow.
The AFL will present the plan to the office of Employment Minister Thomas Lukaszuk, along with thousands of postcards calling for the government to take action on improving Alberta's poor record on workplace safety.
"Only last month, three Alberta workers died in workplace accidents in three days. As the economy picks up, the government must act now to prevent a return to the high rates of injuries and fatalities we saw in the last boom," says Gil McGowan, president of the AFL, which represents 140,000 workers.
