Setout Plan to Address Education Crisis Facing First Nations
WINNIPEG, July 21 /CNW Telbec/ - Assembly of First Nations (AFN) National Chief Shawn A-in-chut Atleo and First Nations representatives will hold a press conference on Thursday, July 22 at the AFN's 31st Annual General Assembly to unveil a plan towards true education reform in order to improve First Nations education outcomes. These solutions are driven by First Nations and offer a responsible alternative to third party reports that reflect external agendas.
Advancing First Nations education and First Nations control of First Nations education is consistent with work aimed at reconciliation following the Residential Schools Apology issued by Prime Minister Harper, and the beginning of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission process.
AFN National Chief Atleo will be joined by long-time First Nations expert and advocate Chief Gilbert Whiteduck of Kitigan Zibi First Nation and members of the AFN Executive at the press conference.
