TORONTO, Aug. 8, 2013 /CNW/ - Accessible Media Inc. (AMI) is pleased to announce that the CRTC has granted the broadcaster a French license and renewed its AMI-tv and AMI-audio licenses through 2018.
"This is a very exciting time for AMI," explains AMI President and CEO, David Errington. "We are thrilled that the CRTC recognized the necessity for a French channel. We live in a bilingual country and we appreciate, as an organization, the importance of inclusion. We look forward to working with local blind organizations and community groups to deliver programming that will be both entertaining and relevant to our francophone audience."
AMI presented its request for a French license to the CRTC on April 23rd at the Broadcasting Notice of Consultation 2013-19 with the intention of satisfying an obvious lack of French programming available with described video. AMI plans to open a Montreal bureau in the coming months however details on a firm launch date have yet to be confirmed.
"I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge and thank our supporters who intervened on our behalf as well as the commission staff for also renewing our AMI-tv and AMI-audio licenses," continues Errington. "AMI advocates an often underserved community and I'm so pleased that we have been granted the opportunity to continue to make media that is accessible to all Canadians, but in particular our blind and low vision audience."
AMI-tv and AMI-audio are available as part of a basic digital package, as will AMI-tv Français upon launch. Check your local provider or visit AMI.ca for the AMI channels in your area.
