OTTAWA, Aug. 17, 2018 /CNW/ - Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, invites the public to join her for the annual Inspection of the Ceremonial Guard, on the grounds of Rideau Hall on Monday, August 20, 2018, at 10 a.m. Following the inspection, the Governor General will address the Guard and thank them for their devoted service during the summer season.
From June 24 to August 23, 2018, visitors at Rideau Hall can witness the pageantry and precision of the Sentries. Led by a piper, sentries march to their posts in front of the residence and at Sussex Gate.
About the Ceremonial Guard
The Ceremonial Guard was established by the Canadian Army (CA) on behalf of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) to plan, prepare and execute public duties in Canada's Capital Region during the summer. Every guard, musician and member of the support staff is a trained Regular or Reserve member of the CAF. During the summer months, in addition to sentry duty at Rideau Hall, they perform the Changing of the Guard ceremony on Parliament Hill and carry out sentry duties at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, located at the National War Memorial. When required, the Ceremonial Guard mounts guards of honour for visiting dignitaries.
