Media Advisory - BCGEU President Darryl Walker in Victoria raising members' concerns with Ministers and critics
VICTORIA, April 10, 2014 /CNW/ - BCGEU President Darryl Walker is in Victoria today discussing members' issues within three Ministries.
Walker will be meeting MCFD Minister Stephanie Cadieux, MSDSI Minister Don McRae, and Advanced Education Minister Amrik Virk. In addition to meeting with the ministers, Walker will also be meeting with opposition critics David Eby (Advanced Education) and Michelle Mungall (MSDSI) today to discuss the following issues:
MCFD/MSDSI:
The union will raise workload issues for MCFD/MSDSI staff. The union will be signing off on the terms of reference for the joint MCFD-BCGEU working group as mandated by BC's Representative for Children and Youth, to address staffing and workload issues within the Ministry.
BCGEU is developing a campaign to bring about change in BC's child protection system, and Walker has been meeting with members in different regions who work in MCFD, MSDSI, and community social services to identify and address workload concerns.
Advanced Education:
With Minister Virk, Walker will be discussing post-secondary education funding, skills training, and funding for ESL training. BCGEU members work in school districts, colleges, and universities, including Camosun College.
