Tunnel Update and Photo Opportunity
TORONTO, Nov. 6, 2012 /CNW/ - Please join Mark McQueen, Chairman, Toronto Port Authority, Geoffrey Wilson, President and CEO, Toronto Port Authority, Councillor Michael Thompson, Chair of the City of Toronto's Economic Development and Culture Committee and Carol Wilding, President and CEO, Toronto Board of Trade, at a press conference presenting the results of an economic study that demonstrates how the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport has grown to become an essential facilitator in the growth of trade and tourism for Toronto. Billy Bishop will serve more than two million passengers in 2012.
The study's results clearly demonstrate that the airport plays a significant role in providing critical regional and continental transportation linkages to support and grow Toronto's economy.
The press conference will also feature the arrival of two 90 tonne Canadian-made tunnel boring machines that have been designed specifically for the tunnel project. When it is completed the walkway will be the only known pedestrian tunnel in the world that connects to an airport and sits beneath a body of water.
The TPA will highlight the tunnel's progress and provide an opportunity to showcase how its unique qualities will transform the passenger experience.
