$15,000 Jays Care grant funds refurbishment of Waasis baseball diamonds
OROMOCTO, NB, Aug. 1, 2013 /CNW/ - On Sunday, August 4th at 1 p.m. ADT, the TORONTO BLUE JAYS, JAYS CARE FOUNDATION and the Town of Oromocto will unveil the newly-refurbished Waasis baseball diamonds in Oromocto, NB.
The Toronto Blue Jays, through Jays Care Foundation, have invested $15,000 in the project, including infield crowning and backstop replacement. This undertaking will benefit more than 3,000 youth in the community.
To kick off the celebration, 50 youth from the local community will take part in a Blue Jays Baseball Academy Honda Instructional Clinic. The clinic will be led by Toronto Blue Jays alumni and staff. The Blue Jays Baseball Academy is hosting 57 Honda Super Camps and Instructional Clinics this year, impacting 5,000 kids across Canada.
Following the clinic, Toronto Blue Jays alumni Duane Ward and Jesse Barfield, along with Sandy Alomar Sr., will join Rob Drynan, Executive Director of Jays Care Foundation, and Bob Powell, Mayor of Oromocto, for the official unveiling of the Waasis baseball diamonds.
