$125,000 Jays Care grant funds refurbishment of Airport Heights Field
ST. JOHN'S, NL, July 12, 2013 /CNW/ - On Tuesday, July 16th at 5:30 p.m. NDT, TORONTO BLUE JAYS alumni Roberto Alomar, Sandy Alomar Sr., Devon White, Duane Ward, Homer Bush and Denis Boucher, JAYS CARE FOUNDATION, the City of St. John's and St. John's Minor Baseball Association (SJMBA) will unveil the newly-renovated Airport Heights Field in St. John's N.L. The Toronto Blue Jays, through Jays Care, have invested $125,000 in the City of St. John's to extend the field to accommodate Bantam baseball for SJMBA. In late summer 2013, the remaining investment will fund the installation of lights at Airport Heights Field. This undertaking will double the field usage and give up to 150 additional players access to the sport of baseball.
Following the official unveiling of the field, SJMBA will be hosting Celebrate Baseball Day for over 600 guests, including registered players and their families. Event attendees will enjoy snacks and refreshments, carnival games and baseball skill development activities.
