Media Advisory - Brighter Nights™ Hits Duncanwoods Drive on the First Day of Summer
TORONTO, June 21, 2013 /CNW/ - Residents of this Duncanwoods Drive neighbourhood are spending the first official day of summer with Toronto Hydro-Electric System ("Toronto Hydro"), City of Toronto Community Crisis Response Program (CCRP), Toronto Community Housing and local volunteers to brighten the night by installing energy efficient light bulbs.
WHO: | Toronto Hydro, City of Toronto Community Crisis Response Program and local volunteers, including youth and residents. |
WHAT: | Toronto Hydro representatives and local volunteers will replace porch lights and install over 50 compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs). |
WHEN: | Friday, June 21, 2013 |
6 p.m. - 8 p.m. | |
WHERE: | 208 Duncanwoods Drive (Islington Ave. & Finch Ave. W) |
WHY: | The Brighter Nights program responds to safety concerns in vulnerable neighbourhoods and helps make them brighter and safer, by installing compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) and encouraging residents to leave them on overnight. A CFL bulb left on between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. costs about a penny a day because they use 75 per cent less electricity* than standard incandescent bulbs. |
The Brighter Nights program is a community based response to safety concerns. This community outreach program aligns safety with energy efficiency by focusing on how valuable lighting can be to our communities. |
