Media Advisory - Brighter Nights™: Shining a Light on Safety in Toronto Communities
TORONTO, Sept. 26, 2013 /CNW/ - Residents in communities across the city are working with Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited ("Toronto Hydro"), City of Toronto Community Crisis Response Program (CCRP) and local volunteers to brighten the night by installing energy efficient light bulbs. This year, approximately 800 bulbs have been installed in communities across the city. Today's event will be held in the Lawrence Heights neighbourhood.
WHO: | Toronto Hydro, City of Toronto Community Crisis Response Program and local volunteers, including youth and residents.
WHAT: | Toronto Hydro representatives and local volunteers will be canvassing the Lawrence Heights neighbourhood. Volunteers expect to install about 200 light bulbs.
WHEN: | Thursday, September 26, 2013
5:30 to 8 p.m. | ||
WHERE: | Lawrence Heights (Cather and Bagot Court)Meeting location - 10 Old Meadow Lane
WHY: | The Brighter Nights program responds to safety concerns in vulnerable neighbourhoods and helps make them brighter and safer, by installing compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) and encouraging residents to leave them on overnight. CFL bulbs left on between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. cost about a penny a day because they use 75 per cent less electricity* than standard incandescent bulbs.
The Brighter Nights program is a community based response to safety concerns. This community outreach program aligns safety with energy efficiency by focusing on how valuable lighting can be to our communities. More info on this program can be found at torontohydro.com/brighternights
