TORONTO, June 18 /CNW Telbec/ - Representatives from the entire independent, Mexican labour movement will be at a unique conference this Sunday to build awareness about the Calderon government's violent assault on Mexican workers and to develop an international solidarity campaign.
When: Sunday, June 20th, 9am-5pm Where: University of Toronto, 89 Chestnut St., 2nd floor Who: The conference is being sponsored by three of Canada's largest private sector unions and three international workers' federations: The Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada, United Steelworkers, CAW, the International Federation of Chemical, Energy, Mine and General Workers, the International Metalworkers' Federation and Union Network International.
"Workers are coming to share their stories of unprecedented violence and repression," says Dave Coles, president of the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada. "Mexico is a NAFTA country, yet the Canadian and U.S. governments are ignoring these basic human rights abuses."
