TORONTO, Nov. 7, 2016 /CNW/ - What's next for BuzzFeed, Twitter and VICE, now that they have a strong foothold in the Canadian media industry? The Canadian Journalism Foundation (CJF) presents From the Margins to the Mainstream: What's Next for Digital Disruptors on November 15 in Toronto.
Established online in the last decade, they were once media's "new kids on the block"—digital disruptors that carved their own niches within the traditional media landscape and were hailed as either saviours or criticized as saboteurs: BuzzFeed, with its listicles and viral content; VICE, with its rebel millennial voice and muckraking videos; and Twitter, a platform for citizen journalism, live reporting and feedback, along with free, sharable content.
Simon Houpt, senior media writer for The Globe and Mail, will moderate this discussion featuring Michael Gruzuk, director of news and digital content for VICE Canada; Jennifer Hollett, head of news and government for Twitter Canada; and Craig Silverman, founding editor of BuzzFeed Canada.
The discussion is part of the CJF J-Talks series, exploring issues and challenges shaping journalism.
The CJF is grateful for the generosity of J-Talk series sponsor BMO Financial Group and in-kind supporters CNW and CPAC.
Admission includes the post-event cocktail reception with the speakers.
WHEN: Tuesday, November 15 | Discussion: 6:00 p.m. | Reception: 7:30 p.m.
WHERE: TMX Broadcast Centre, The Exchange Tower, 130 King St. West, Toronto
