Media Advisory - CADA Media Teleconference: Mandatory Paper Fuel Economy Labels a 1970s Solution to a Non-Existent Problem
OTTAWA, June 3, 2013 /CNW/ -
WHO: | Canadian Automobile Dealers Association (CADA) Chief Economist Michael Hatch |
WHAT: | CADA Chief Economist will hold a media teleconference to discuss potential new regulations from Natural Resources Canada pertaining to fuel efficiency labels on new cars and to provide his economic update on the state of the retail automotive industry in Canada. |
WHEN: | Tuesday, June 4th 2013 at 1:00 PM EST. |
WHY: | Natural Resources Canada is considering making mandatory a voluntary-based fuel economy labeling system for new cars sold in Canada. This is a 1970s solution to a problem that does not exist. Labels that are currently affixed to new cars display fuel economy data for all models sold at new car dealerships. However the program has always been voluntary. CADA has no problem requiring that its members make fuel consumption data available to consumers, but mandating that they be in paper format when consumers increasingly obtain this information online is not the answer. |
