About World Diabetes Day
World Diabetes Day was created by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1991, in response to growing concerns about the escalating health threat that diabetes poses to the global community. World Diabetes Day, as of December 2006, is an official United Nations World Health Day. It is represented by a blue circle - the global symbol of diabetes. November 14 was chosen as the day to unite for World Diabetes Day, as it marks the birthday of Canadian Sir Frederick G. Banting, who, along with Dr. Charles Best, are credited with the discovery of insulin in 1921.
