LONGUEUIL, QC, June 26, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - On June 29 at 5:42 a.m. ET, a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft will lift off to deliver a new "hand" for Canadarm2, the Canadian robotic arm aboard the International Space Station (ISS). This new Latching End Effector (LEE) will replace the unit astronauts removed during a series of spacewalks in the fall of 2017 and will ensure that Canadarm2 can continue performing maintenance tasks on the ISS and catching supply ships.
The spacecraft will also deliver some of the Canadian food that Canadian Space Agency (CSA) astronaut David Saint-Jacques will eat during his space mission beginning in December, as well as supplies and equipment to support science and research investigations.
On June 28, CSA expert Ken Podwalski will participate in a NASA briefing at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. On June 29, he will also be a guest on NASA TV to provide live commentary during the launch.
