Media Advisory - Canadian Dermatology Association to host free skin cancer screening at the YMCA of Greater Moncton on Tuesday, June 3rd
MONCTON, NB, May 30, 2014 /CNW/ - On Tuesday, June 3rd the Canadian Dermatology Association will host a free skin cancer screening clinic to educate the public on the importance of early detection and prevention for all skin cancers. Participants will also learn how to conduct at-home skin cancer self-examinations.

Background:
- Skin cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in Canada and worldwide.
- This year it is estimated that 6,500 Canadians will be diagnosed with melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer.
- What does this mean for New Brunswick? An estimated 175 new cases of melanoma being diagnosed in 2014 and 25 preventable deaths.
- Up to 70% of all melanomas are first identified by the patient themselves (53%) or close family members (17%).
