Event to be hosted by RSA Canada with the aim of creating safer streets by building empathy among Toronto's pedestrians, cyclists, motorists and drivers
TORONTO, June 2, 2018 /CNW/ -
WHAT:
RSA Canada, a leading property and casualty insurer in Canada, aims to shift the conversation around safety on our streets, from a heated debate to progressive harmony. Let's face it: we Canadians may be known for our polite ways, but that is not reflected at street level. A lack of empathy, compounded by low awareness of the rules of the road, seems to be at the core of the issue. A recent survey commissioned by RSA Canada1 found 50 per cent of Toronto pedestrians and drivers admit they don't always know when cyclists have the right of way.
TruceTO, RSA's new corporate social responsibility initiative, seeks to unite pedestrians, cyclists, motorists and drivers based on every Torontonians' shared desire for – and right to – safer streets. The goal is to make Toronto one of the first cities in North America to officially call a truce between pedestrians, cyclists, motorists and drivers.
All Torontonians are invited to join the TruceTO launch event, for the chance to participate in a fun, interactive survey on their street sense, take a pledge to be a better street-sharer, get a picture taken against a customizable backdrop and score a fun surprise. Those who can't make it to the event are still welcome to take the pledge to be a better street sharer at www.truceto.com and by using #TruceTO on social posts. Attendees will also have the chance to participate in a driving simulation provided by DriveWise, a leading Canadian driving school, where they can quite literally, put themselves in the driver's seat to better understand and better navigate our changing streets – bike lanes, construction zones and pedestrian crossings, to name a few.
