Media Advisory - Canadian Teachers' Federation holds annual meeting, fosters discussion on building citizenship

WINNIPEG, July 4, 2014 /CNW/ - The Canadian Teachers' Federation (CTF) 2014 Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be hosted by the Manitoba Teachers' Society in Winnipeg from July 9 to 11 with the theme of Weaving social fabric: building citizenship. The AGM will be held after the CTF President's Forum which takes place July 7-8, also in Winnipeg.

The CTF AGM, the federation's top policy-making body, provides teacher leaders from across Canada the opportunity to discuss and debate policy, to approve a budget, to elect a new executive for 2014-2015 and a president-designate who will assume the presidency in July 2015. The President, currently Dianne Woloschuk of the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation, serves a two-year term while Vice-Presidents are elected annually.

The meeting will also include social events such as the President's Reception, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. on July 9 at the new Canadian Museum for Human Rights, a Women's Caucus Breakfast, from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. on July 10 and a presentation of CTF's annual awards ceremony at 11:40 a.m. on the same day. The decisions voted on by the teacher leaders at the forum have the potential to effect students, teachers and teacher organizations across the country.  Sessions are open to the media.
