CALGARY, Sept. 17, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - The Calgary International Film Festival's (CIFF) red carpet will be the place to star-gaze on Thursday night as award-winning Canadian director Deepa Mehta, Hollywood heartthrob Jason Priestly, award winning country music singer George Canyon and more walk the red carpet for CIFF's Gala Opening for the western Canadian premiere of Midnight's Children. The film is directed by Canada's own Deepa Mehta and based on the Booker Prize winning novel by Salman Rushdie.

Hosted by the Honourable Heather Klimchuk, Minister of Alberta Culture, CIFF's opening night promises to offer a mix of stars of film and television, federal, provincial and municipal politicians, Alberta's business leaders and even an Olympic medallist or two!
