Media Advisory - Care Partners' workers in Simcoe to hold info picket Mar. 18
SIMCOE, ON, March 17, 2015 /CNW/ - Workers for Care Partners based in Simcoe, Ont. will hold an information picket on Mar. 18 in a bid to put pressure on their employer to bargain a first contract.
The affected workers, represented by Local 294 of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU), have been attempting to bargain a first contract for the past 20 months with no success.
"We've been frustrated that no deal has been reached through the bargaining process," said Chris Frail, chair of the bargaining team for Local 294. "It's time management demonstrated a willingness to negotiate seriously."
The union, which represents about 140 full-time and part-time workers at Care Partners in Niagara and Norfolk counties, is seeking to set an hourly wage rate, set sick time allowances (they currently have none) and set basic health and safety provisions. Management continues to deny their employees these basic rights
Care Partners delivers nursing services including oncology, dialysis, pediatric, wound and diabetic care in the community.
