Media Advisory - Cascade Aerospace employees fight for their right to picket employer

VANCOUVER, June 10, 2014 /CNW/ - Striking workers at Cascade Aerospace will be attending a court hearing to support the union's legal right to picket their Abbotsford employer in a dispute over equal benefits for young workers.

"Instead of wasting time and money in court, Cascade Aerospace should get back to the bargaining table and end this strike," said Gavin McGarrigle, Unifor's BC area director. "Unifor members are on strike to protect the benefits of the next generation of Cascade employees. We won't be intimidated by frivolous lawsuits."

Workers will be leafleting outside of the Law Courts to raise awareness about the Cascade dispute.

Unifor Local 114 members at Cascade Aerospace have been on a legal strike since June 4. Unifor represents 440 aircraft maintenance engineers (AMEs), interior technicians, painters, stores, maintenance, planning clerks, sheet metal mechanics and other workers at the Abbotsford facility.

Unifor was founded Labour Day weekend 2013 when the Canadian Auto Workers and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers unions merged. With more than 300,000 members, Unifor is Canada's largest union in the private sector.
