Media Advisory - CAW Delegates Gather in Port Elgin, Ontario for CAW Council Meeting
PORT ELGIN, ON, April 12, 2012 /CNW/ - CAW members from across Canada will gather at the union's Family Education Centre in Port Elgin, Ontario for CAW Council meetings from April 13 to 15. The Council is considered the union's parliament where delegates, representing rank-and-file members, meet to discuss and debate the key issues facing the union.

CAW President Ken Lewenza will address council delegates at approximately 9:15 am on Friday, April 13. His speech will cover issues such as the union's upcoming round of bargaining with the Detroit 3 automakers, jobs and the economy, the CEP/CAW new union proposal, the negative impact of free trade deals, and proposals to overhaul Canada's foreign investment rules in the wake of the Electro-Motive plant closure in London, Ontario.
Other guest speakers include 22-year old writer and activist and former parliamentary page Brigette DePape who will speak Friday, April 13 at 2:30 pm as well as Communications, Energy and Paperworkers (CEP) Union President David Coles, who speaks on Saturday, April 14 at 2:30 pm.
