Media Advisory - CAW Reaches Deal with Coca-Cola, Ends Three Week Strike

TORONTO, July 18, 2013 /CNW/ - A tentative collective agreement was reached early this morning between the CAW and Coca Cola Refreshments, ending a three-week long strike. Workers at the Brampton bottling facility, members of CAW local 973, had been on strike since negotiations broke down on June 27.

"We're very pleased to have reached a tentative deal with Coca Cola," said CAW National President Ken Lewenza. "This has been a difficult time for our bargaining committee as well as our members out on the picket line. We knew that this agreement would impact other Coke workers across the country and we fought back against serious concessions put forward by the employer."

All the key issues that forced the strike have been resolved, said Lewenza. The bargaining committee will be unanimously recommending the agreement at a ratification meeting scheduled for Friday July 19 at 10 a.m. at the Westwood Arena in Toronto.

Details of the agreement will be released upon ratification.

The CAW represents over 700 workers at the Brampton bottling facility.
