Media Advisory - Celebrate a City of Sustainable Architecture and Design at The Living City® Environmental Dinner
TORONTO, Oct. 30, 2014 /CNW/ - On Thursday, November 6, join business, environmental and community leaders for a celebration of sustainable architecture and design. The 21st annual Living City Environmental Dinner is organized by The Living City Foundation which supports the work and raises funds for projects undertaken by Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA). Since 1993, the dinner has raised more than $3 million to protect environmentally significant lands and raise awareness about the importance of conservation in creating a cleaner, greener and healthier place to live in the GTA.
This year's event is hosted by Master of Ceremonies Rod Black, TSN Sportscaster. Guests will be entertained by Drum Café and will hear from Luigi Ferrara, Dean, Centre for Arts & Design and Director of the Institute without Boundaries (IwB), George Brown College, who will present a multi-media presentation on sustainable buildings and architecture.
Mr. Ferrari will be speaking about the importance of systems thinking in confronting the complex challenges that we face in this century, including how TRCA was set up as a systematic response to the issue of severe weather events in the aftermath of Hurricane Hazel. This has resulted in Toronto being one of the only cities and regions in North America to have strong biospheric planning and one of the only cities to have actually prevented flood damage and watershed protection over the years.
He will also discuss how TRCA's mission and thinking reflects and parallels the thinking that the IwB is fostering, and how systems thinking is critical to designing resilient and inclusive cities and creating sustainable and prosperous regions.
During the Dinner, a number of Living City Awards will be presented to organizations and individuals who exemplify TRCA's vision for The Living City.
The Living City Dinner celebrates the great conservationist and visionary Charles Sauriol C.M. and the vision for a new kind of community, The Living City, where human settlement can flourish forever as part of nature's beauty and diversity.
