OTTAWA, June 18, 2014 /CNW/ - The Public Service Alliance of Canada, the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers will be celebrating the people who continue to provide quality public services to Canadians in spite of the shameful records of cuts to public services and jobs by the federal Conservative government.
The hard work and dedication of public service workers are constantly ignored by a government that has already cut billions of dollars from public services and thousands of federal government jobs. These cuts threaten the quality of public services and make federal workplaces less safe for workers and the Canadian public.
The government cannot pretend to value public sector workers during Public Service Week and at the same time cut the services they provide, and attack collective bargaining rights.
The celebration will take place on June 19, 2014 from 11:30 to 1:30 at the corner of Bank Street and Laurier Avenue.
In addition to the speakers below, public sector union leaders who will be on hand to answer questions about the government's record of cuts to public services include John Edmunds National President of the Union of Solicitor General Employees, Doug Marshall National President of the Union of National Employees, Todd Panas National President of the Union of Environment Workers and Mike Sargent National President of the Natural Resources Union.
