Media Advisory - Centennial College breaks ground for new residence and Culinary Arts Centre
TORONTO, Oct. 10, 2014 /CNW/ - Centennial College will mark the start of construction of its eight-storey Centennial Residence and Culinary Arts Centre with a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, October 15. Centennial culinary ambassador and Food Network personality Chef Robert Rainford will be on hand to show off some of his trademark grilling skills.
The striking new building will take the shape of a quadrangle with a central courtyard to allow natural light to reach all of the residence rooms. There will be space for 740 students in two- and four-bed suites, complete with a bathroom and kitchen in every suite, and all residents will have a private bedroom. Centennial's rapid growth created unprecedented demand for accommodations at its aging 340-bed facility, a former hotel on Progress Avenue that was renovated to become the college's first residence in 2001.
The ground floor of the new building is dedicated to Centennial's School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts, complete with seven kitchen labs, eight additional classrooms and a teaching restaurant. The conference and events centre located on the top floor will accommodate up to 425 guests.
Construction of the $85-million Centennial Residence and Culinary Arts Centre will commence this fall, with occupancy slated for the fall of 2016. Knightstone Capital Management is undertaking the planning, financing and management of the project. Other key partners include Diamond Schmitt Architects, Canadian Campus Communities and FRAM Building Group.
Members of the media are invited to attend and speak with representatives.
