TORONTO, Oct. 16, 2013 /CNW/ - CFIB spokespeople in Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal will be available prior to and immediately following this afternoon's Speech from the Throne, to share the perspectives of small business, to comment on the speech and to answer questions.
"Small business owners will be hoping to hear a clear focus on jobs and the economy," said CFIB president Dan Kelly. "The government recently sent a positive signal to small businesses and working Canadians by freezing EI premiums. This new session of Parliament presents an opportunity to build on the momentum, and get the economy back into high gear."
Key issues for small business in the upcoming legislative session are the threat of CPP/QPP increases that some provinces are pushing for in advance of the next Federal-Provincial Finance Ministers' meeting in December, and the issue of rising credit card processing fees that was left unresolved in July when the Competition Tribunal missed an opportunity to make the payments system more fair for merchants and consumers.
