MONTREAL, Aug. 4, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Chez Doris, a day shelter for women in difficulty, will undertake significant repairs to its building. The shelter will require intermittent closures, and its clientele will be affected and will be directed to other resources.
Chez Doris will replace its foundation walls on the south side of its original building in order to stabilize its structural integrity. For more details please see: www.chezdoris.org/en/under-construction.
Chez Doris will be closed to its clientele on the following dates:
- Wednesday, August 9 (electricity will be cut-off)
- Monday, August 21 to Friday, August 25 (complete closure)
- Monday, September 4 (statutory holiday)
- Tuesday, September 5 to Friday, September 8 (complete closure except for administrative offices)
- Monday, September 25 (tentative date for electricity to be cut-off)
Chez Doris advises the public that its storage space will be very limited, and only the following donations will be accepted: Perishable and non-perishable foods, bras, underwear, pull-up adult diapers, socks, towels, and 100% wool sweaters (to be converted into mittens). Monetary donations will be accepted by mail or via its web site at www.chezdoris.org or may be dropped off at the reception on days it will be open. Its Aboriginal Housing Program will continue to pick-up donations of pre-selected furniture by appointment-only to be directly delivered to apartments for its newly housed, indigenous clientele.
Following October 28, Chez Doris will once again accept donations of seasonal clothing, hygienic products, and housewares.
Funding for this construction project was made possible primarily by the Fondation J.A. DeSève, The Molson Foundation, Hockey Helps the Homeless, and the Montreal Saint Patrick's Foundation, and les Soeurs de la Présentation de Marie du Québec.
