Letter Urges Transportation Minister to Act Before Pan Am Games

Who:	Junction Triangle residents frustrated by the massive expansion of diesel train service under construction in their neighbourhood by Metrolinx.
What:	Community response to open letter (released today http://www.anabailao.ca/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/GeorgetownARL.pdf) from members of Toronto City Council to Transportation Minister Glen Murray calling for electrification of the Union Pearson Express and Georgetown South rail corridor.
Where:	Surrounded by train tracks on all sides, the Junction Triangle is situated at the epicentre of rail activity in West Toronto.

Why:	Canada is a world leader in clean, quiet electric train systems. The Union Pearson Express, a legacy project of the upcoming Pan Am Games, will be using new, imported Tier 4 diesel engines that exist only in prototype and operate nowhere commercially. Electric trains now would eliminate the health threats created by diesel, be significantly cheaper to operate and provide an opportunity to showcase Canadian technology.
